Behind the wheel at 17

With accompanied driving (B17) you get your car licence at 17. Until your 18th birthday you drive with a registered accompanying adult and gain valuable experience – this makes you a safer driver and is proven to reduce the risk of accidents during the probationary period.

How it works

  • Training from 16½ at the earliest, test no earlier than one month before your 17th birthday
  • Training, theory and tests as for class B
  • Until your 18th birthday only with a registered accompanying adult
  • At 18 the test certificate is exchanged for the photocard licence

The accompanying adult

  • At least 30 years old
  • Has held a class B licence for at least 5 years
  • No more than 1 penalty point in the German driving register (Flensburg)
  • Is named on the test certificate

For B17 we also need a declaration of consent from your parents or guardians – we'll prepare the documents for you after you register (forms are in German).

Step by step

  1. Register at 16½

Online or at the office, incl. the application naming your accompanying adults.

  2. Theory & practice

Just like class B – also possible as a holiday intensive course.

  3. Test from 17

Then you're off – with your accompanying adult.

  4. Solo at 18

Exchange the certificate for your licence – done.
